Drugs and Alcohol Awareness courses form a vital part of mandatory training for the general workforce and these courses used to be widely available. Seaview was fortunate to be granted funding enabling us to train a group of people in recovery to get the lived experience perspective included in the training delivery.
These ‘peer trainers’ have re-designed and condensed the course from two days into a one-day session and have started delivering it to a large network of people including housing providers, Sussex Police and other local charities.
The intention is to help raise awareness of drugs and alcohol issues, explain how to get help and to de-stigmatize this group by raising awareness of some of the challenges facing people with substance misuse.
